THE SUMMER MONTH OF ACCEPTANCE (4).png

The Summer Month of Acceptance

Summer months were always fleeting in nature when were they not, be it the summer of school wherein no holiday homework was done, or the summer of boards wherein none of us finished those extra subjects we so wanted to but summers always brought with them the joy and beauty of change and bliss, the chaos of thunder soon ensued though, each summer, not just the world or golden tan something a little else changed too. And, even if the half of us didn't get the summer break we wanted so badly, change whispered still.

Well, the article sure isn't mainly focused on the summers in general, It is to remind you, that even if you failed to realize the month of June has come to a halting end, and with this little warm month of June, being the much-commercialized pride month, or the quaint month of acceptance as the writer would deem it to be, here are a couple of changes that this little article wants to put forward subtly.

The month of acceptance, was it?

So, what exactly do we mean by acceptance, it is the bliss, chaos, and the beauty of it all, sorry, all poems kept aside, acceptance, in all earnest means to accept someone for who they are, how they are, and more or less what they are. Accepting the diversity of people, in people, not only makes the world, a little more open and liveable but also gives reason to millions of muffled voices to keep their fight against ignorance alive.

Diversity, exists in all forms, in our college, and the way, we all from such different backgrounds and stories, co-exist together, humorously, more or less, similarly, people with different orientations and genders do exists amongst us, and for them, it is our moral obligation to make our campus a little more accepting, open and thriving.

We often notice ourselves and people around us throwing various gender-normative, gender stereotyping, gender biasing, or degrading slurs, even if we don't mean them in the very literal sense, but for someone, it might be the triggers of their lifetime, this summer, for instance, isn't Kajal, just for girls, or you are such a tomboy, why do you always wear such baggy clothes, are you gay? Most of them aren't even creative enough. Please. At least we can try to identify them and consciously try to pace them out of our colloquial dictionary.

How often, do we come across the acts of stereotyping people, attributes, or personality traits, to a particular label or box we deem them to fit in, what if this summer, we held the labels and tags a little back and give people the space to thrive in their own peculiar manner, that is some out of the box thinking by the way.

Well, JUNE was a pretty little month and this is enough holiday homework to ponder and procrastinate about? And just like a lot of things that don't really make sense, here’s a little message to the month we left ashore.

Dear JUNE,

We’ll miss you until we meet again:)

Bye.
