परमार्थ

Social Club of IET Lucknow

परमार्थ means "परोपकार"(providing help to others without expecting anything in return) . PARMARTH is a social club of IET Lucknow, endeavoring to educate underprivileged in the vicinity of the campus.

History

The urge to establish such a club was invoked by kids, begging near the campus. The students of IET conceived the idea of PARMARTH which came into effect on 6th September, 2015. The club started with a notion of teaching the kids ‘how to think, not what to think’. At first, the volunteers of the Club visited slum every day to teach the kids. Appreciating the initiative, director and faculties supported the club and allowed us to hold these sessions in college's own lecture theatres (LTs).

FACILITIES

The students are dispensed with stationary,                 textbooks and notebooks.

Children are taken on an excursion for recreation.

FUNDRAISING

Funds are mainly the money donated by the college students, faculties and alumni's.

Events and Activities

  • Swachata Ki Pahal- a project endured to spread awareness of the importance of

hygiene among the natives of the slum.

  • Awareness sessions are also organized for parents to prevent their exploitation at

work.

  •  Children, assisted by volunteers, perform in college events, hence availing the

opportunity to showcase their talent and boost their confidence.

  • All the major festivals and National holidays are celebrated with the kids. This

enhances their knowledge of history, culture and heritage of the country.

 Special sport events are also organized.

Muskaan - Students, faculty, and workers of the college donate clothes, shoes and
books to be handed out to the children and their families.

Some events were started to facilitate the life of these children and ensure that they do not
discontinue studies to make both ends meet.
They are:

  •  Disha - Organized to counsel beggars near the campus.

  • Pooja- It is an initiative for the teenage girls who can't come to LTs (lecture
theatres) due to restrictions by parents or due to lack of time for they are bread
earners of the family. They are taught by female volunteers in the slum (at a shack made
by college students). In addition to studies, they are taught etiquettes, the generalknowledge required to lead a proper life and maintain hygiene.
