Unsolved Mystery of iET

EP01- The Street Light

On most paths of IET, the ones in use at least, one can find a file of streetlights illuminating the street. The path connecting Aryabhatt Hostel and Ramanujan Hostel was not any different; well, for the most part. One particular Streetlight started gathering attention, when a small group of students witnessed a strange phenomenon. The light pole in question is situated in front of the RML hostel and the area around remains moderately busy and would seem ‘normal’ at first.

However, as the day comes to a close and the darkness begins to set in, things start to get; as one might call it… ‘paranormal’.  This mysterious phenomenon unfolds as follows. An unsuspecting passerby is walking along the street, as they approach the mentioned area, the streetlight directly above them abruptly turns off leaving them in eerie darkness.

One might think that it is fairly common for old streetlights to malfunction but this not the case of loose wires or faulty connections. The streetlight has been found time and again to be working as new all the time until someone enters the shady patch. As soon as a human presence is detected, the light goes out; almost as if some unnatural forces were at play. Like you, the students were skeptical at first and eager to find out for themselves. It wasn’t long when a critic set out in the night, alone, just to prove that this so called “haunted street light” was in fact, a hoax. Mused, he marched towards the light, with a camera (to record his findings) as he was about to put this silly little rumor to an end. The light didn’t so much as flicker as he stood just ahead of it. Convinced, he took another step and the unconceivable happened. Just like the stories, the Streetlight turned off. Shivers ran down his spine, his feet froze as he looked around for some explanation. His eyes caught glimpse of the grave that was known to be right next to the Aryabhatt hostel. The grave had an uncanny glow around it, as if emerging from it. The realization was made that the grave was almost perfectly in line with the streetlight. This made the critic even more uneasy and he decided that this was enough myth busting for one night. He made the trip back to the hostel only to realize that the recording was gone from his phone. Contrary to what he claims, he probably just forgot to hit the record button (right?).

This episode did stir up some debate, one that did not reach a conclusion. Although it’s not devoid of some wicked theories that float the campus. While some say that this occurrence is somehow connected to the grave, others believe it to be some elaborate prank. Needless to say, that more than enough time has been spent on the abnormal turning on and off of a streetlight. One of these days the streetlight will turn off for the last time; until then, this remains an Unsolved Mystery of IET.
